Decatur Dream Center
The Decatur Dream Center (DDC) is a faith based non-profit organization located in Decatur, Alabama. The DDC is designed to meet the needs of low socio-economic families in the Decatur and North Alabama region. A variety of programs that serve many areas of the community are offered. The facility is located at 312 8th Street, S.W., Decatur, Alabama and is equipped with a clothing closet, food bank, hair salon, adult education and ESL classes as well as the administrative offices for all the outreach opportunities available at the Dream Center. Adult education classes and ESL classes are offered at the Dream Center through a cooperative effort with Calhoun Community College. The Dream Center currently serves over 400 local residents monthly. Many families find out about the Dream Center through our Adopt-A-Block program. The first and third Saturday of each month Adopt-A-Block volunteer teams go door to door to assess needs, build relationships, provide services such as lawn maintenance and inform families of the Dream Center programs available (clothing, food, haircuts). The Dream Center has a residential womenís recovery program where residents commit to 12 to 18 months of recovery therapy from addictions. Residents are counseled, discipled, mentored and taught job skills that will help them in the workplace. Recovery residents are housed in an 18 bed dorm located at a separate facility in the community. Overcomerís Victorious, a nonresidential outpatient recovery support group is offered weekly. The Dream Center also provides outreach opportunities to new moms, local jails, work release programs.
